I'm fundraising for the RFDS!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve known about the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). The name alone always struck me with awe, although I’ll admit I wasn’t entirely sure who they were or what they actually did. Like many people, I assumed it involved doctors flying around Australia providing medical care. So even as I trained and qualified as a Registered Nurse and Midwife, working for the RFDS never really crossed my mind. It wasn’t until I began my critical care training in ICU that the idea started to take shape. My colleagues, knowing I was already a midwife, would often ask, “Are you going to join the RFDS once you get your critical care qualification?” That was probably the first time I seriously considered it. It opened my eyes to a new path and made me realise just how many opportunities lay ahead. While I’m grateful to work in a major tertiary hospital in Melbourne, I also felt driven & inspired to support people in rural and remote areas. Then a friend sent me the Critical Care Flight Nurse RFDS job ad with the simple message: “This is so you.” As soon as I read it, I knew it was time for me to take the leap. Here was a chance to work for an extraordinary organisation committed to bridging the healthcare gap for rural and remote Australians. As a dual trained Midwife & Critical Care Registered Nurse, this was my dream job!
