TRAINING FOR 98 KM — IT STARTS NOW!
Well, I've gone and done it.
This October, I've committed to walking 98 kilometres to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
At 77 years old, there is a small possibility that I should have thought about the distance before I signed up.
Too late now. 😂
Jo is alongside me as Team Acushla, and the walking shoes are officially coming out.
Between now and October, I'll be posting some of my training walks — the distances, the good days, probably the not-so-good days, and no doubt the occasional moment when I question my own sanity.
But there is a serious reason behind all of this.
I've spent a considerable part of my life travelling through isolated places by land, air and sea, sometimes a very long way from medical assistance. I've experienced emergencies where there simply wasn't medical help nearby.
That gives me enormous respect for what the Royal Flying Doctor Service provides to people living, working and travelling throughout remote Australia.
So I'm going to give this everything I've got.
October target: 98 km.
Training: starts now.
Team Acushla: underway.
I'll do the walking. If you'd like to get behind us and help keep the Flying Doctor flying, we'd be enormously grateful for your support.
And if you see an old bloke wandering around Western Australia looking slightly lost over the next couple of months...
I'm probably training. 😂
