My why:

This October, Thomas and I are going to run 87 km for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in memory of our amazing Pop Norm, who passed away on Friday, 28 August, whilst being urgently transported by the Royal Flying Doctor to Adelaide.

The Royal Flying Doctor has always been incredibly special to our family. Pop always admired their work, and every time we went to Broken Hill, we would go out to the airport hangar to see the planes and admire what they do.

Over the years, our family has also experienced their work firsthand. Pop used their services whilst working in very remote NSW, and I still remember standing with him at the hangar and waving goodbye to my Grandma while she was under their care and being transported from Broken Hill to Adelaide. My mum also worked for the Royal Flying Doctor, providing dental services to people living in rural and remote NSW.

For people living in rural and remote communities, the Royal Flying Doctor is quite literally the ambulance of the sky. Although they could not save our Pop, they have saved countless other lives and continue to provide care to people who would otherwise be hours away from it.

Pop always donated his money and time to the Royal Flying Doctor, so it only feels right that we now donate ours back in his memory.
