Why I'm walking

I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.

Day 30, I walked, but forgot the photo!

A single lap of the block on night 30, but I forgot to take a photo...

Day 31, I didn't miss a day!!

A very slow Parkrun walk after a week of POTS flare, but I got there in the end... 31 days of Oceans to Outback completed with another five km humid slow walk. Yay!!

Day 29, finished challenge again!

Only two laps of the small block. I have to take someone with me at present due to dizziness... But, 29 consecutive days of walking, even the short ones. It's worth celebrating!

Day 28. 400m. Migraine!

Migraine. 400m to the street corner and back is plenty for today. But I still moved a little.

Day 26, forgot to post again

A single lap of the small block after work was the best I could manage yesterday.

Day 27, four laps of the small block

I didn't make it to work today, so four laps won't fix my daily step count, but it'll help loosen up my body and brain! Despite the cold wind, still got hot and sweaty!! 🤣

Day 24, forgot to post, Parkrun under an hour!

Yesterday was my second fastest Parkrun, but no palpitations afterwards. Comfortable 58 minutes, pushed hard only for the last five or so minutes. It was hot, humid and awesome!

Day 25, three laps of the small block

Between downpours of rain, went for a short walk. Only got a little bit of rain, but it's back again now!

Day 23, single lap of the block after dinner

One lap of the block after dinner out and about!

Day 22

Single lap of the block, but with Stuey out of plaster!

Day 21

A very short walk today, one tired lap of the block. On Monday, it took me 26 minutes to walk three laps. Today, almost 11 minutes for one lap...

Day 20. Two slow laps around the small block.

Wow, only 20 days to walk 44km. Even with slow days like today.

Day 19!

Three quick laps around the small block. Still on steroids, so might as well use the excess energy! Plus, so close to 10,000 steps that an extra lap seemed like a good idea. Then I was hot, forgot to take a photo, this is the after shower photo 🤣

Day 18 SCAD walk locally

Five km walk to raise funds for SCAD research. It's been four years since I had my SCADs.

Day 17, very slow Parkrun walk

I made it.

Day 16, very short walk

It's been a very big day, so a single lap of the block was all I could manage today.

Day 15

Three laps of our small block. Three laps more than what my body wanted, one lap less than what my mind needed!

Day 13, I forgot to post

I didn't even get a photo yesterday... But I did do a double lap when I got home yesterday.

Day 14, another double lap of the block

Another ginormous work day, but a double lap of the small block probably helped my sanity a little...

Day twelve, a solitary lap of the small block

End of a ginormous day, single lap of the small block!

Day 11 short one today

Short walk today after a big day yesterday, but with Stuey today ❤️

Day ten, Parkrun number 19

Halfway to my target mileage already?! Awesome! I may need to increase my target, but I'm happy that I'm out there every day, even the short ones. Very warm and humid today.

Day nine, two laps of the small block

It's hot out there tonight. But two laps of the small block done, after dinner out for Michael's birthday.

Day eight. Gentle walk home downhill.

Day eight, walk up the hill to the podiatrist, and then back down again. Very warm and sunny out there, big drink of water when I got home!

Day seven, around the block twice

Two laps of the block. 1.5km. It took a bit longer because I stopped to chat!

Day six

Sore knees, one short lap of the block... 750m

Day Four, a short stroll at Koonwarra.

Forgot to take a photo, short walk.

Day Five Short stroll

Just up and down the street today with an extra injured Stuey.

Day three Parkrun Walk

The wettest Parkrun I've ever done, raincoat with hood needed the whole time. 66 minutes to complete the five km. Started late, but finished the event!

Day one

It was raining on day one, so I walked around the block in a raincoat.

Day two

Another gentle 1.5km walk around the block today, but with Stuey, as it's not raining at present!

I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

So far this year
I’ve helped provide...

Laryngoscopes image

14

Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.

Life-saving medical chests image

9

Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.

Defibrillator Pads

8

Defibrillator Pads – used with a machine to monitor a patient’s cardiac health.
