Why I'm walking

I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.

I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Every year, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) reaches more than 330,000 Australians through 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services — that’s one person every two minutes.

For our family, the RFDS is so much more than a statistic. They are the reason our beautiful daughter, Ameilie, is here with us today.

On Sunday, 22 March 2026, our lives changed forever. Ameilie was involved in a devastating boating accident in Mount Gambier, where she suffered a severe skull fracture that required immediate, life-saving brain surgery.

Living in Mount Gambier, we are fortunate to have incredible local medical services, but when Ameilie needed specialist neurosurgical care that simply wasn't available here, the RFDS stepped in. She was urgently retrieved from Mount Gambier and flown to the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide, where she underwent emergency brain surgery.

The speed and expertise of the RFDS gave Ameilie the chance she needed. Without them, we genuinely don't know if our daughter would be here today.

As a regional family, we now understand firsthand just how vital the RFDS is to communities like ours. When every minute matters, the ability to rapidly transport someone to the specialist care they need can mean the difference between life and death.

That's why I'm taking on this challenge and raising money to help keep the Flying Doctor flying. Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps the RFDS continue providing this life-saving service to families across regional and remote Australia.

Please consider donating today. From our family to yours, thank you for helping ensure that another family gets the chance to bring their loved one home. ❤️
