Our Connection to the Bush
As a boarding school, St Joseph’s Nudgee College has always shared a strong and proud connection with the Australian bush. For generations, Nudgee has welcomed young men from regional and rural communities across Queensland and Australia, creating a deep understanding of the people, places and communities that make up the Australian outback.
For Tierney House, this connection is an important part of who we are. It is one of the reasons we are proud to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) through our involvement in the Oceans to Outback Challenge.
For more than 90 years, the RFDS has played a vital role in providing lifesaving medical care and essential health services to people living, working and travelling in some of Australia’s most remote and isolated communities. When distance, isolation and limited access to medical services can become a matter of life and death, the RFDS helps ensure that where someone lives does not determine the quality of care they can receive.
This mission resonates strongly with the Nudgee community. Many of our boarding families and students come from rural and regional Australia, where vast distances are a part of everyday life. We understand that the Australian bush is not simply a place on a map – it is home to families, communities, farms and businesses, and to many of the people who form an important part of the Nudgee story.
Through the Oceans to Outback Challenge, Tierney House is proud to play our small part in supporting an organisation that has such a profound impact on these communities. Our challenge is about more than covering kilometres; it is about recognising the people beyond our city and supporting an organisation that is there when Australians in the bush need help most.
From the coast to the outback, Tierney House is proud to stand with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and support its vital work across Australia. Donate now!
I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
So far this year
I’ve helped provide...
0
Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.
0
Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.
0
