Tarsh's story

Living in a small town with a small hospital makes it hard when it comes to medical complications.

My eldest daughter had bronchiolitis when she was only 10 weeks old. Our little Albany hospital could only offer her oxygen which wasn't enough. The RFDS were fantastic in transporting her to Perth for a bigger hospital. She was treated with care the whole way and I was always considered. We truly believe they saved her life after her oxygen levels were so low in Albany and they didn't have the facilities to support her further.

With my youngest daughter, I had a complicated pregnancy which meant an early c-section after a heavy bleeding. Again, being a small hospital Albany didn't have the facilities for any pre term babies. The RFDS were called and arrived within a couple of hours to fly me to a bigger hospital to have surgery and safely deliver my baby. Who wouldn't have had access to life saving treatment had we not been moved. The doctors on that flight and through that process were amazing. So kind and caring while I was so scared of what was to come. They truly saved both of our lives that day. I would have bled out, and there was no guarantee my daughter would have survived at a smaller hospital.

And before all of this, they flew me to Perth with kidney stones that my hospital couldn't laser. I was in early pregnancy, so terrified of something going wrong, and the RFDS were there every step of the way

We're fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, we're taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, we hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to our challenge today!
