Why I'm walking
I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). ❤️✈️
For me, this one is personal.
More than 20 years ago, Mum and my stepdad, Poppy Ant, were working out bush in the Central Desert when their Troopie hit a camel. The impact sent the Troopie rolling towards Mum’s side.
Poppy Ant and their two little Chihuahuas, Tiny Boy and Sista Girl, were thankfully okay, but Mum was badly hurt.
And in the middle of everything, Tiny Boy being Tiny Boy, he got out, walked straight over to the dead camel and did a wee on it. 🐕🐪
Tiny Boy had the final word.
Then all they could do was wait.
They were in the middle of the Central Desert, a very long way from help, with no way of knowing when the next person might come along.
For hours, Poppy Ant kept Mum alive, using his nursing knowledge and bush survival skills while they waited and hoped someone would eventually pass by.
Finally, someone did.
Some boys travelling through on their way to visit cousins in another Central Desert community came across them. They stopped, realised how badly Mum was hurt and went to get help.
That help came through the Royal Flying Doctor Service. ✈️
After hours out there, Mum was finally able to get the medical care she desperately needed.
The Flying Doctor helped save my mum for another day. ❤️
When you live in a country as enormous as Australia, it’s easy to forget just how far away help can be. For people living, working and travelling through remote, rural and regional Australia, a hospital may not be a few streets away — it can be many hours away.
The RFDS exists for moments like this: when someone is seriously injured, distance is dangerous and ordinary access to medical care simply isn’t possible. Their aircraft, crews and services help bring urgent care to people who might otherwise be left waiting far from help.
Our family knows firsthand what it means to have the Flying Doctor there when distance stands between someone you love and the medical care they need.
More than 20 years later, I still have my mum because help reached her when she needed it most.
That’s why I’m doing this challenge in October — to help support the service that gave my family more time together.
Every bit of effort and every dollar I raise can help the RFDS continue providing vital medical care, emergency transport and support to people across remote Australia. Your donation could help ensure that, when another family is waiting in the middle of nowhere, the Flying Doctor can reach them too.
Please donate if you can and help keep the Flying Doctor flying — because one day, someone you love may be the person waiting for help. 🇦🇺✈️❤️
