I’m walking 87 kilometres to raise funds for the RFDS — every step in honour of Dad and the incredible care they provide to families across Australia.

We’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive the support of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) on two occasions.

The first was in 2007, when Mum suffered a heart attack and required urgent, life-saving treatment. The RFDS flew her to Perth, ensuring she received the critical care she needed.

More recently, just 18 months ago, Dad was involved in a serious car accident on the remote Nullarbor Plain near Eucla, WA — more than 13 hours by road from the nearest hospital capable of treating his injuries. Once again, the RFDS came to our aid. They coordinated an emergency landing on the Eyre Highway — an extraordinary effort requiring meticulous planning and management at short notice — and transported Dad to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Despite their swift and expert response, Dad’s injuries were too severe, and he passed away a few days later with us by his side.

Although his story did not end as we had hoped, we are deeply grateful to the RFDS for giving him the best possible chance of survival and allowing us precious time together in his final moments.

We never imagined we would lose our Dad in such circumstances, and it’s a powerful reminder that none of us knows when we or someone we love may depend on the life-saving services of the RFDS.

They truly are the angels of our skies, and they need our ongoing support to continue their vital work and keep their life-saving missions flying. 🫶

To help give back to this incredible organisation, I’ll be walking 87 kilometres to raise funds for the RFDS. Every step is in honour of my Dad and in gratitude for the care they’ve given our family — and so many others across Australia.

If you’re able, I’d love your support in helping the RFDS continue their life-saving work. 💙✈️
