Why I'm walking
I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.

Well, that's day 2 done and dusted! I set myself a very timid goal for my first time in, so am happy with my progress thus far. I've actually always hated walking. It's always seemed to be a lot of effort for little gain. I'd much rather ride a bike or swim. However, my bike is out of action at the moment and walking is a much easier option than swimming. There's no prep and I can easily fit it in to my daily routine. But walking to find raise is also a walk with purpose and that seems to suit my temperament, so by changing my focus, I'm finding it a lot easier and the time seems to pass quicker. Only 29 days to go and clearly I'm going to exceed my goals. Feel free to share my page so it reaches as many people as possible. Thank you everyone for your generous donations. You're so appreciated 👏 💐I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
I and my family have had cause to rely on the RFDS while living in regional, rural and remote communities - from the 1960s when my brother was airlifted to Meekatharra from Wiluna with appendicitis; when as a young pregnant Mum in outback Sth Australia the RFDS was on standby for ante/neonatal emergencies which required a flight to Adelaide; and when my eldest daughter was flown from south west Australia to Perth's Princess Margaret Children's Hospital in a potentially life threatening emergency. Fortunately all outcomes were positive, but what a safety net when the nearest major hospital can be 8 or 10 hours away by car.
The Flying Doctor Service holds a special place in my heart, so this October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
So far this year
I’ve helped provide...
9
Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.
6
Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.
5
Defibrillator Pads – used with a machine to monitor a patient’s cardiac health.

Well done. This is amazing
