Why I'm walking
I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.
Donate now >>I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
My trusty dog, Gus, and I have decided to take on the October month-long fitness challenge, Oceans to Outback to help raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Sure, Gus checks every pee-mail along the way (and replies to every single one), and it takes me nearly an hour to walk 4km, but it’s all worth it! We are aiming to walk 87km.
This one is personal – and even more so this year.
Last month, I lost my father. In 2008, while working in Kununurra, Dad had a heart attack. The RFDS flew him to Perth for life-saving surgery, giving us precious extra years together. We will always be incredibly grateful to the RFDS for being there when we needed them most.
I recently visited the RFDS base and Outback Museum in Broken Hill, and was blown away by the inspiring stories and incredible history. If you ever get the chance to visit, I highly recommend it.
Australia is a big country, and for people living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate medical care isn’t something we can take for granted. For some communities, the nearest hospital can be an eight-hour drive away.
By fundraising for the RFDS, I hope I can help more people access the care they need, wherever they live.
Every year, the RFDS reaches more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
So, Gus and I are putting one paw (and one foot!) in front of the other to help keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work.
If you can, please support my Oceans to Outback challenge with a donation. Every contribution, big or small, can help make a difference.
Thank you! ❤️
