Why I'm walking
As a nurse/midwife living and working in a rural community I have leant on the support of the RFDS on many occasions. Now as a mum I hope it’s a service I never need to use but take comfort in knowing is available should my little family require transfer to tertiary level care.
The RFDS was something I never put much thought into when living in the city but since living in the country I’ve never been more thankful to have such a service available. Without ongoing donations though the RFDS cannot continue to fly which would be devastating and so that’s why I’m walking 42km this October to help raise vital funds to keep the RFDS flying.
I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
