I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

So far this year
I’ve helped provide...

My Updates

100kms walked

Thursday 30th Oct
I finally finished my personal goal & walked 100kms in a month, very pleased with myself for sticking to it. now for a much deserved alcoholic beverage & a rest tomorrow before setting up for hallowe’en. 🍷💤👻🐩

Finished

Tuesday 28th Oct
I did it!! 87 klms walked, thats like walking from Ayr to Townsville. I’m very proud of myself for sticking with it, even on days that I’d rather sleep in or when it was really too hot to be out walking, I kept going. there’s still 3 days left so let’s see if I can reach 100 klms though I’m not going to push myself. I didn’t make the donation challenge, still $150 short. Thank you Dave, Annmarree, Steve, Robert, Sharon & Judi for contributing. will post again at the end of the month.

Over half way

Thursday 16th Oct
I’ve now made it to over the halfway mark, as I promised I’ve just put in another small donation so both the klms & the fundraiser are on target. tomorrow I’m going away for a few days to the beach so hopefully I can keep the walk going while I’m away.

Just my dog & i

Saturday 11th Oct
This morning was really difficult to get motivated! what I really wanted to do was to stay home & chill out for the day! however I made a commitment to myself & the Flying doctors so I pushed on. The walk was the best thing that I could have done for myself, I found a new pathway & walked beside a small stream with plenty of mango trees around. it cleared my head & has set a new pace for the day. My granddaughter has had to return home to Brisbane for some medical issues, so once again I’m alone with just my little dog, hopefully she will return at a later date. I’m really proud that I have almost made the halfway mark already having walked 36kms. still no donations so I will self donate once I reach the halfway mark & again on completion. 🐩

Getting started

Friday 26th Sep
This year, my granddaughter and I decided to do something different together — we signed up for the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s Ocean to Outback Challenge, walking 87km to raise funds and awareness for the life-saving work RFDS does across Australia. We weren’t out to set any records; we simply wanted to contribute in our own way, step by step. We will walk through parks, around the neighbourhood, and on the beach, sometimes in the early morning, sometimes after dinner — whatever fits into our routine. It is less about the destination and more about showing up, moving forward, and being part of something bigger than ourselves. We talk as we walk, sometimes about big things, often about nothing in particular — but these shared moments will add up. While the challenge isn’t designed as a bonding experience, it will naturally became one. Some days our legs will be sore, some days we won't feel like going, but knowing we are helping raise funds for such an essential service will keep us motivated.
