Why I'm walking
I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.
Donate now >>I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
I have been a Registered nurse since 2006 and have worked in isolated, rural and regional Queensland. There is nothing so isolating as needing help and no one is there!! Who do you call? The RFDS!
The RFDS supports patients, hospital staff and communities through their ongoing support to allow access- big or small, to allow people living in rural and isolated areas that there is help and support heading their way when they need it!
Although it says the money goes to this or that, I KNOW RFDS kits go to isolated and rural homes as a first aid and medical kit- it has saved lives!! I KNOW they have picked up patients who NEED to go to a big hospital for treatment and have SAVED THEIR LIVES! And it’s only the beginning.
Not only are they a support to patients, but all the health care staff which have nothing else to give their patient-but they are just too far away from a tertiary hospital that can help!!
A medical team on the other side of a screen while you’re doing everything you can as an isolated nurse, keeping someone alive - is EVERYTHING! You never know what will come through the ED doors and as the Registered Nurse, without a Doctor, it is YOU! .. and sometimes the amazing Ambos or first responders, or your amazing Nurse Unit Manager in her dressing gown and pink slippers because “she could hear the ambos and came to help” 🤣.
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
So far this year
I’ve helped provide...
12
Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.
8
Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.
7
Defibrillator Pads – used with a machine to monitor a patient’s cardiac health.
