Why I'm walking
I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.

I started this annual challenge in 2024 in the midst of grief as I had just lost my beloved Dad. This was my way of honouring him, my greatest hero, my biggest supporter in life and my greatest inspiration. Without the RFDS, we would’ve missed an extra 24+ years with him, and my children would never have known him and experienced him show such kindness, compassion, resilience, bravery, true strength and so much more in the face of adversity.
This is part of his story -
On 29th of January 2000, the Royal Flying Doctor Service saved my Dad’s life when he had an accident on a remote outback property near Yaraka Qld.
24 years, 7 months and 6 days is how much bonus time that bought us with him. In that time he got to meet all of his 7 grandchildren and watch them grow into young adults - only 1 was born when he had his accident. He lost the full use of his legs due to spinal injury and was in a wheelchair full time and struggled with even the most basic of daily tasks that we all take for granted. He never complained, but instead went through life with grace and compassion, always saying there were people worse off than him, inspiring us and teaching all of us some big life lessons.
We said goodbye for the final time just 2 years ago to this brave, courageous, amazing and kind man, so what better way to honour his memory than to use my legs to raise funds for such a vital and life saving service as the RFDS.
I pledge to walk and/or run 100kms in the month of October (Dad was 76 when we lost him + 24 years of disability that would’ve felt like at least twice that to him = 100). My fundraising goal is $1283 (how many weeks since his accident until we lost him, how many weeks his legs failed him).
I would love it if you would support me on this journey, in memory of my beautiful Dad and my greatest hero, John Paul.
