Why I'm walking
Walking for the RFDS 💙✈️
I am proud to be taking part in the RFDS Oceans to Outback walk as a way of giving back to an organisation that has made an enormous difference to the lives of so many Australians living in rural and remote communities.
As a previous Rural and Remote Registered Nurse, I know firsthand how important the Royal Flying Doctor Service is. I have cared for many very unwell patients who needed urgent transfer to specialist hospitals, and I have personally sent patients through the RFDS service when they needed care that simply wasn’t available locally.
For patients and their families, the RFDS can be the link between where they live and the specialist care they desperately need. For small rural healthcare facilities and the nurses and doctors working within them, knowing that the RFDS is there provides an incredible sense of reassurance and relief.
I have witnessed the difference this service makes — not only in getting patients to the right place at the right time, but in giving rural communities access to a level of care that many of us can easily take for granted.
For me, this walk is personal. It is my opportunity to give something back to an organisation that I have relied on professionally and witnessed the impact of throughout my nursing career.
Every kilometre I walk is for the patients who needed that flight, the families who needed hope, and the rural and remote communities who rely on the RFDS when they need it most.
If you’re able to support me, any donation, big or small, would mean so much and will help the RFDS continue providing this essential service to Australians across our vast country.
Thank you for supporting me and, more importantly, for supporting the incredible work of the RFDS. 💙
Every step counts. Every donation helps. Every flight can make a difference. ✈️
I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
So far this year
I’ve helped provide...
5
Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.
3
Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.
3
Defibrillator Pads – used with a machine to monitor a patient’s cardiac health.
