Support my fundraiser for the royal flying doctor service!

Hello my beautiful friends ❤️ Starting today, I’m taking on a personal challenge to walk at least 50 - 100KMs for the Royal Flying Doctor Service “Oceans to Outback” initiative. After my motor vehicle accident last year, I’m still on a long road of recovery, facing chronic pain, mobility difficulties, and the possibility of further surgeries. Some days that means hobbling and wobbling my way forward, so whilst this goal may seem small to some, these steps I’m taking is for a cause that is close to my heart, and to help others who are in serious need. Through my work in rural areas, I’ve seen firsthand just how vital the RFDS is. Australia is a huge country, and for many people living in remote, regional or rural areas, access to immediate care isn’t guaranteed. In some communities, the nearest hospital is an 8 HOUR drive away. Every year, the Flying Doctor reaches more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrievals and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every 2 minutes. They provide life-saving emergency evacuations, inter-hospital transfers, GP and nurse clinics, immunisations, mental health care, dental services, health education, and much more. They run more than 65 primary health clinics every day, support over 2,300 medical chests across remote communities, and fly more than 112,000 people every year. The truth is, we never know when we or someone we love might need them. 🩵 It would mean the world to me if you could support my walk. Every donation, even $5, adds up in ways you cannot imagine and directly helps keep the Flying Doctor flying to new heights, continuing their life-saving work for Australians everywhere. 💙 Donate here: https://www.oceanstooutback.org.au/s/67792/75828 💙

Having experienced the Royal Doctors under an emergency scenario. I was flown to Townsville Hospital urgently for immediate surgery. I do not think I would be alive today if it Ws not for their professional approach and diagnostic ability. The environment was that of being in a flying hospital. A very important demand in Australia that should have priority support especially at Government level. Government wastage of tax payers movey is a disgrace. This opinion is formulated through having been a member of the Liberal Party and running a company with national clients.

Every single step you take, often with the help of a cane, and always with massive pain, counts not just double, triple, more like 100fold in my books, seeing that some days you can't even stand up, or walk at all without a spinal injection due to your injuries! So I am doubling my donation, that's the least I can do. I want to acknowledge your courage and commitment to keep going, keep trying - you are changing so many lives in the process - including your own 💚. You truly are an inspiration that gives hope to so many. Thank you, Maya!

The day, leanne, rfds midwife and flight nurse became the patient’s mum

Monday 8th Sep
I just received one of the most moving emails from Leanne, a mum of three, midwife and flight nurse with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Queensland. Leanne shared that on any given day she might be delivering a baby in a remote clinic, treating a ringer’s injury out on a cattle station, or flying a critically ill patient hundreds of kilometres for care. But one day, she wasn’t the RFDS Midwife and flight nurse….. She was the terrified mum. Just after Christmas, her six-year-old daughter slipped, hit her head, and quickly became pale, drowsy, and started vomiting. Trusting her instincts, Leanne rushed her to the hospital in Cloncurry. The RFDS flew them to Townsville, where scans revealed a brain bleed from a ruptured blood vessel. That night, her daughter needed urgent surgery and suffered a stroke. Thanks to the incredible care of the RFDS, the hospital team, and rehab specialists, she recovered. Today, she’s back at school with her twin sister. She’s walking, talking, living and loving life like any other kid. Leanne ended her email with this message: “With the money you raise, you make it possible for me to help others and for families like mine to get help when they need it most! We’re cheering for you from across Australia Maya. Keep going and smashing your fundraising target!” Reading her story gave me goosebumps. It’s a reminder that the RFDS isn’t just about planes and logistics. It’s about families, futures and moments that matter. The RFDS is a service I hold near and dear to my heart, as they have saved the lives of many people I know, who are still here with us today because of the Flying Doctors. This is why I’m fundraising. Because every single donation helps the RFDS save lives. Whether it’s someone out on a remote cattle station or a six-year-old girl who needed urgent surgery to survive. 💙 If you’re able, please consider supporting my fundraising for the RFDS. Every dollar makes a difference.

Bitten by one of the world’s deadliest snakes — how the flying doctor saved michael 🌅🙏🏻🐍

Monday 8th Sep
When you move fast, so can the Flying Doctor. And for patients like Michael Dawson, waiting time can be the difference between life and death. Michael and his wife were near their home in Northcliffe WA, when an ordinary day turned into a terrifying race against time. Michael suddenly felt waves of nausea. Something wasn’t right. As he sat down to rest, he spotted two puncture marks on his lower leg. “I don’t want to be an alarmist,” he told his wife, “but I think I’ve been bitten by something.” They rushed to the Northcliffe Nursing Post, where the nurse confirmed their worst fear…. a snake bite. 🐍 But what kind? Nobody knew. With venom spreading rapidly, Michael needed urgent help. His leg was bandaged tightly, and he was taken by ambulance to Manjimup Hospital. There, the call was made and the Royal Flying Doctor Service was needed immediately. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, the Flying Doctor was able to prioritise Michael’s case and deliver lifesaving anti-venom in time. He began to recover, before being flown to Royal Perth Hospital for further care. Michael later learned that he had been bitten by a tiger snake — one of the deadliest snakes in the world. Without rapid treatment, the outcome could have been tragically different. Michael was lucky. But luck alone isn’t enough when lives hang in the balance. It takes swift action, highly skilled crews and a service ready to respond at a moment’s notice — no matter how remote the location. That’s why your support is so vital. 💙 Every dollar helps ensure the Flying Doctor can be there when the unexpected happens. Please, if you can, give what you can. Your generosity goes such a long way and it could be the reason someone makes it home to their family tomorrow. 💛 The link to contribute is on my Facebook page or directly through the Oceans to Outback link here: https://www.oceanstooutback.org.au/s/67792/75828

✨ the scale of the rfds mission & its enormity

Tuesday 2nd Sep
Most people know that the Royal Flying Doctor Service flies out to help people in rural, remote and regional Australia. But what’s often overlooked is the sheer ENORMITY of this work, every single day. Here are the 2024 figures: 🛫 81 flights every day on average 🌍 28,000,000 kms travelled in a year – that’s close to 73 trips between the Earth 🌎 and the Moon 🌙 or 699 orbits of our planet Behind every one of those flights is a patient, a family, and a community depending on the RFDS. 💙 It’s nothing short of extraordinary. 💛 Even $5 or $10 goes further than you can imagine in keeping these planes in the sky. 👉 Contribute today: https://www.oceanstooutback.org.au/s/67792/75828

Rfds save 2yo parker galloway after near-fatal accident

Monday 1st Sep
In January 2023, during a family holiday in Esperance, Western Australia, major tragedy struck when 2yo. Parker Galloway was accidentally run over twice by a four-wheel drive towing a caravan. The vehicle passed over him with both its front and rear wheels, leaving Parker critically injured. Miraculously, he survived the ordeal, thanks in part to the quick actions of bystanders, including a paediatric doctor, a nurse, and a midwife, who happened to all be staying at the caravan park and provided immediate assistance. Upon arrival at Esperance Hospital, doctors determined that Parker’s injuries were severe, including a fractured pelvis, broken arm, internal bleeding, and a lacerated liver. Recognising the need for specialised care, the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) was called upon to transfer Parker to Perth Children’s Hospital. The RFDS team provided exceptional care during the flight, stabilising Parker in the confined space of the aircraft. Parker spent a month in hospital, undergoing treatment and recovery. Today, he is a vibrant four-year-old, playing with his mates and running joyously, a testament to the life-saving efforts of the RFDS and the resilience of the Galloway family. Emma Galloway, Parker’s mother, expressed her profound gratitude, stating, “I was in awe of what the RFDS does.” Your support ensures that the RFDS can continue to provide critical care to those in need. 🩵 💛 Contribute today: https://www.oceanstooutback.org.au/s/67792/75828 💛
