Oceans to Outback Cottesloe to NT outback

So in the past couple of weeks I’ve covered great distances by foot, with a plane & charter in between, from the sandy Cottesloe beaches to 45 degree desert heat, now in the blazing red NT outback. No matter, the local folk, who stop and chat, oblivious of the intense heat, always amaze, hatless, shoe less, shirtless, weathered skin…..soaking up the sun, chatty & smiling on their land ‘on country’. Thanks everyone who have donated …. 5 days to go ……

My Story - A Narrow Escape

I once came incredibly close to a catastrophe. Two pilots and I were aboard a charter flight coming to land on a very remote NT outback strip. The landing approach seemed routine until suddenly we realised the wheels had not deployed. The atmosphere in the cockpit instantly changed with chaos and frantic communication. Then, the screech of the aircraft, smoke rising and the terrifying realisation that we were about to land, without our wheels. I had visions, at very best, of the Royal Flying Doctors, coming to collect us, maybe one, hopefully all three. Every second seemed to stretch out for the inevitable horrific impact. Then suddenly it was over, we were alive surviving the impact until the aircraft screeched to a stall. Despite the chaos, the smoke, the deafening noise and the intense fear, we walked away, down the runway, in searing 45 degree desert heat. To say it was a terrible scare, is an understatement, one of those moments that changes your perspective how quickly life can change. How lucky the three of us were !!

Lajamanu NT, Very Remote “Royal Flying Doctors”

Thanks to all who have already donated, very generous ! Together, your donations, our steps, the Flying Doctors will keep saving lives in our massive country.

I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

So far this year
