Why I'm walking
I’m walking to give back to the service that helped out our family in a difficult time. We live in Victoria and my husband does FIFO out of the Pilbara in WA, one morning I received a phone call from my husband saying he was in the Tom Price hospital with vomiting and serve lower back pain, an ultrasound was done which confirmed the doctor’s suspicions of a kidney stone, the doctor wanted to fly hubby to Karratha for a CT scan. I contacted our private health to see if medical transport was covered and it was NOT, panic started to set in, I’m home alone with our 9 month old, looking into all our options, when hubby rings and tells me that the Royal Flying Doctors service was able to take him, I was elated and relieved. He was flown to Karratha and the CT revealed that he needed surgery, he was then flown to Perth for the surgery.

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
So far this year
I’ve helped provide...
8
Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.
5
Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.
5
Defibrillator Pads – used with a machine to monitor a patient’s cardiac health.
