Why I'm walking

I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.

I'm fundraising to continue access to healthcare in regional and remote parts of the country

I have had personal experience working alongside and relying on the RFDS to provide care for families in my community. The work they do is extremely important and often life-saving. I've seen the RFDS team transfer patients in my care to metro hospitals where they can access more facilities and resources, which can be the difference for a good outcome for a family.

I'm fundraising to help the RFDS continue their amazing work in our regional areas across Australia. Without them, many people would have to travel very long distances to access healthcare, lots of Australians would be left vulnerable without emergency flights to hospitals around the country, and medical boxes wouldn't be provided to those living on stations and far from clinics and hospitals.

On a personal note, I am looking forward to having a fitness challenge to work towards in my journey to losing weight and becoming fitter for myself and my family.

And if you haven't checked out the RFDS podcast "The Flying Doctor", I would really recommend it to get an insight into the wild situations these guys are prepared to deal with! Some of the stories are unbelievable.

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By doing this challenge, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
