Why I'm walking

I'm walking this October to save lives and help more Australians access essential healthcare.

I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those of us living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate medical care isn’t always a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital capable of providing the care they need can be hours away.

I’ve personally needed the Royal Flying Doctor Service twice.

The first time, I was flown to Adelaide as a precaution because there was a risk my condition could deteriorate, and the hospitals in the Mid North simply weren’t equipped to provide the level of care I may have needed.

The second time, the RFDS flight was life-saving. I needed emergency specialist care that wasn’t available locally, and they got me where I needed to be when time mattered most.

Those experiences have given me a very personal understanding of just how vital the RFDS is for people living outside our major cities. When something goes wrong, distance shouldn’t determine whether someone can access the care that could save their life.

So this October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Every year, the RFDS reaches more than 330,000 Australians through 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services — that’s around one person every two minutes.

I’m going to push myself to go further this October, and I’d love to raise as much as possible for a service that has quite literally been there for me when I needed it.

Together, we can help keep the Flying Doctor flying and make sure people living in rural, regional and remote Australia can access vital medical care when they need it most.

If you’re able to, please donate to my challenge. Every kilometre and every dollar counts. ❤️✈️
