Why I'm walking/running/riding

I'm paddling my kayak 98km this October to help more Australians access healthcare. I had shoulder surgery last year and I am thankful for the healthcare I received, so this target is both a comeback goal and a way to assist RFDS

My Updates

Mixing it up

Thursday 15th Oct
When the river level, great weather and a gap in the shift roster all align we love a multi day paddle on the Goulburn. I thought about halving the logged distance because we were two up and paddling downstream, but guiding a fully loaded boat in an active river, often holding position in the current for fishing, I reckon it's about right.

The boat

Thursday 8th Oct
I'm into week 2 now and tracking well.
The main boat I'm using is my Think Zen surfski. At 5.6 metres long and 52cm wide it's an intermediate ski, or perhaps an advanced beginners. On a good day on flat water I can hold just under 10km/h for about 8k's. If the river levels hold till the weekend I'll change boats for a bit of downriver fun and get some current assistance, but otherwise so far the distance has all been human powered.

Off to a good start

Sunday 4th Oct
Rain is fine, it's the wind that matters. Day 1 started a bit windy but by the end of the session it had eased. It's a good feeling to finish with the fastest K and the boat just slicing the water.
I'm aiming for 25km's per week via 3 sessions, which was my pre surgery level.
