I'm fundraising for the royal flying doctor service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away. This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes! Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

So far this year
I’ve helped provide...

Laryngoscopes image

16

Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.

Life-saving medical chests image

10

Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.

Defibrillator Pads

9

Defibrillator Pads – used with a machine to monitor a patient’s cardiac health.

One of Australia's greatest and most needed institutions Happy to help you Dee. I once flew Broome to Dili (Timor) with Robin Miller ( on one of her off days). It was a very eventful flight but luckily we survived. There is a chapter in her book Sugarbird Lady about the trip. I will lend it to you.

My Updates

Exceeded goals

Saturday 25th Oct
Feeling chuffed and also a lot fitter. Waist size and weight are down and endurance/speed are up. Guess I'm gonna rinse and repeat O2O in '26!

Tuesday target

Wednesday 22nd Oct
one of the great benefits of walking to kilometers a day is that I have been discovering parts and Lakeside walks in my city that I didn't know existed or so peaceful and beautiful. today's straw was no exception around the Wanneroo side of Luke Joondalup...burdsong, f to g ser nades and delete ghtful ducklings.

Best day walking

Sunday 19th Oct
With a group of friends, I was inspired to walk 5 KMs✈️ while discussing O2O goals with them. Good day and more donations forthcoming.

Fueled up

Saturday 18th Oct
a 2 km walk around my local park is very entertaining. great place for the kids to learn the rules of the road.

Sharing the path

Thursday 16th Oct
longneck turtles

Hooked on tv show

Tuesday 14th Oct
Another great episode and seeing the King Air safely landed...

Outdoor pickleball clinic

Tuesday 14th Oct
you run more steps when playing doubles in pickleball than tennis and many other sports with a ball. Exceeded my daily goal in 4 games. .

World pickleball day

Saturday 11th Oct
it's true, you run more steps in PB than tennis. My daily goal of 2 KMs won't take long.

Daffodil dough

Friday 10th Oct
I wish I had $1/daffodil spotted in a bush reserve. Stopped counting at a thousand: would have tripled my donation goal.

Wildflower walk

Friday 10th Oct
Weeds n wildflowers the theme of today's walk in Tranquil Park. Orchids to daffodils (pretty but a rampant weed).

Me and hoppy

Thursday 9th Oct
my first and ninth park walk. Becoming friends with a Roo.

Day 9

Thursday 9th Oct
Walk with a purpose...get another Flynn donation.

Over the top

Tuesday 7th Oct
Every donation counts, smallest was $5 and largest $90. Two anonymous donors were generous. So now I have to raise the bar.

Two birds* with 1 stone

Tuesday 7th Oct
I helped the *flying doc* today with a personal donation. On my walks I often pickup containers for recycling. After my 2 km walk, during which I collected 3 cans, I headed to the recycling centre and decided to put the refund towards meeting my fundraising goal.

Nearly there

Monday 6th Oct
My fellow gym rats helped me get to the end zone, so now just need the extra point kick to score a big goal.

Sunday streak thru swamp

Sunday 5th Oct
Just 3 KMs from home is a famous swamp. The path around it is popular with cyclists, runners, dog walkers and strollers with cameras (Moi). Today I saw a pair of rare and endangered red tail cockatoos (out of zoom range) and seldom seen sulphur crested cockatoos (who posed for me). Birds in flight ...flying docs.

Rockports rock

Sunday 5th Oct
my coastal pathway walk was easy as in comfy shoes

Day 3 streak

Friday 3rd Oct
I'm walking all of my local parks, of which there are many. one a day for 1 km, but managed 2 today for 2kms. The image is from the playground in the middle.

Day 2

Thursday 2nd Oct
Another neighbourhood park in cool part of the morning, listening to Spotify and stopping to smell the roses.

Rainy sunday

Sunday 14th Sep
Not a good day for driving or flying. So I'm continuing my O2O training in a (leaky) gym while the squalls engage with a soggy land. I've heard the RFDS airport has had a moat around it during Noah's Ark Season in Perth.

I'm fundraising for the Flying Doc

Tuesday 26th Aug
Medical, dental and wellbeing services are part of their mission, from the coast to the Red Centre and in between. We all can help to keep them flying. Thanks for your any-level donation, as every little bit adds up. #O2O #OceanstoOutback
