The kids and I are taking on the Oceans to Outback challenge once again. The boys (aged 6 and 8) will be riding 42 kilometres up and down the driveway of our remote cattle station (whilst I try to keep up on foot) to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Our 4-year-old daughter will also be joining the challenge. She will be walking and riding 21 kilometres around the homestead track (as she's only just began riding on two wheels and the driveway is too challenging for her little legs).
The official challenge takes place in October but by then, temperatures here will begin to climb to 40 degrees. We are getting an early start while the weather is still manageable.
Living remotely, we understand just how important the Royal Flying Doctor Service is. When medical help is hundreds of kilometres away, the RFDS provides reassurance that care can still reach families like ours when it is needed most.
The station driveway is far from a smooth bike path, with plenty of corrugations and a sandy creek bed to tackle along the way. The kids are excited, determined and very proud to be supporting a service that means so much to people living in rural and remote Australia.
