Why I'm walking
I suffered a severe brain injury 20 odd years ago after a car accident in N.Z where I was working at the time, was in a coma, lost sight in my left eye, had numerous broken bones including my hip & know how vital urgent help is - I am alive because of doctors care
Donate now >>I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
So why am I personally doing this- walking for flying Doctors :26 years ago at age 26, I was in a car accident & suffered a severe brain injury, after having been in a coma, including multiple bone breaks, including a broken hip, i was also blinded in my left eye & after having a Tracheostomy Tube (Trach): A curved plastic or metal tube put directly into a small surgical hole made in the front of the neck. Doctors use this when a person needs a breathing machine for a long time or if their upper airway is blocked-& mine was for an extended amount of time - to keep me alive, spent the next 2 years learning how to walk & talk again, as well as how to handle social interactions at a rehabilitation centre for brain injuries
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
So far this year
I’ve helped provide...
57
Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.
35
Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.
32
Defibrillator Pads – used with a machine to monitor a patient’s cardiac health.
