Why I'm walking

Last year, our family made the big move from Brisbane to remote South Australia. In Brisbane, we had a major hospital literally at the end of our street and, unfortunately, had to rely on both the hospital and ambulance service more than we would have liked with our daughter.

Moving somewhere so remote, I was honestly really nervous about no longer having that medical care just minutes away. Knowing the Royal Flying Doctor Service is there if our family, or anyone in our community, ever needs urgent care has given me such a sense of reassurance.

It’s a service I truly hope we never need to use, but living remotely has made me realise just how important it is. That’s why I’m walking this October — to give back to a service that helps make living remotely feel that little bit safer for families like ours.

A Cause That Means More to Me Now

This October, I’m taking part in the Oceans to Outback challenge to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service!

Since moving from Brisbane to remote South Australia last year, I’ve gained a completely different appreciation for just how important access to healthcare is when you live outside a major city.

The RFDS provides 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services to people across rural and remote Australia, reaching more than 330,000 Australians every year - that’s one person every two minutes!

So, throughout October I’ll be getting my steps in and doing my bit to raise as much as I can for an incredible service that means so much to remote communities like ours.

If you’d like to support me, I’d be so grateful for any donation, big or small. Every little bit helps keep the Flying Doctor flying! ❤️
