Just like last year, I’m taking on the Ocean to Outback Challenge this October — walking 100 km and aiming to raise $1,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). If you don’t know much about RFDS, let me introduce you to an incredible service that helps bring essential healthcare to people living in rural and remote Australia. ❤️ They travel vast distances — from the coast to the far reaches of the outback — to reach people who may be hours away from the nearest hospital or doctor. They provide outreach healthcare in communities where access to regular medical services can be limited, respond to life-threatening emergencies, and provide aeromedical transfers when people urgently need hospital care. And recently, during my travel nursing contract in regional South Australia, I had an even more personal reminder of why this service matters so much. I shared my RFDS fundraising challenge with some of the residents and staff I met, and their stories really stayed with me. ❤️ One resident told me he had suffered a heart attack and was flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he underwent open-heart surgery. He spoke so gratefully about the care he received and how thankful he was for RFDS. ❤️ Another staff member and friend told me about a serious accident just six weeks ago. He had fallen approximately 3 metres, sustaining complex shoulder fractures, five broken ribs and a perforated lung. RFDS arrived within minutes and flew him to hospital for urgent treatment. Thankfully, after surgery, he is now doing well. Hearing these stories from people who have actually needed and experienced RFDS care made this year’s challenge feel very different to me. It reminded me that behind every kilometre walked and every dollar raised, there is a real person, a real family and sometimes a life that depends on getting medical help quickly. So this October, I’ll be putting one foot in front of the other for 100 km. 🥾 If you can, I’d love for you to support my challenge. Every donation, no matter how small, helps RFDS continue bringing healthcare to people in rural and remote Australia. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing my fundraiser is just as appreciated. ❤️ 🙏🏼 Thank you for walking this journey with me — one kilometre, one step and one donation at a time. 🌊 Ocean to Outback 🥾 100 km 🎯 $1,000 fundraising goal ✈️ Supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service Let’s do this! 😊❤️ xxI'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
