I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

So far this year
I’ve helped provide...

Laryngoscopes image

43

Laryngoscopes – used to assist in intubating and ventilating a patient.

Life-saving medical chests image

27

Life-saving medical chests for a remote, rural or regional community.

Defibrillator Pads

My Updates

Well, we did it!

Friday 31st Oct
Thanks everyone for your amazing generous donations! I made the walk, and the sober October challenge. and we hit the $$$ target! amazing! 🤩

Last nights thunder storm

Wednesday 29th Oct
Last nights thunder storm didn’t bring much in the way of rain, but it did make the morning beautiful and fresh. and the sky was lovely. ☺️

Adding an extra 0.5km

Saturday 25th Oct
I’m adding an extra half a km a day to achieve my goal (I think this will work!). I’d like to think that I could just smash out a good 10km in one go but time/kids/dodgy knee will not allow this so a small increase each day it is. Red sun this morning, pink sunset last night. Maybe some rain coming. Thanks again everyone (no one is reading this 😂but thanks anyway!). xx

Another early morning

Wednesday 22nd Oct
It’s boiling hot here! 5:30 is the best time of the day. Another sunrise photo just to prove I’m doing it 😂 Still no wine either - go team!

Today was a hot one!

Tuesday 21st Oct
A little later out the door this morning (5:40), and it was already getting pretty warm. A beautiful way to start the day though! Thanks everyone.

Catching up

Monday 20th Oct
I’m not sure if I’m even going to make my 47km goal, but I’m very pleased to have reached me fundraising target (thanks everyone!) and also to be sticking with my sober October goals. The best thing about doing this challenge is just getting back into the routine of waking early and going for a walk. it’s been several years since I’ve been able to do this and starting again has reminded me that it really is my best way to start the day and I’m so grateful to be able to do it again (thanks kids for finally starting to sleep!).

Just realised none of my posts have actually saved 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thursday 16th Oct
See!!! I’m so bad at tech! Please see pretty sunrise pictures below, as proof of my walking progress and also because they’re pretty. oh dear!

I’m not going to make it!!

Thursday 16th Oct
So I realised this morning that there’s actually no way I can achieve my 87km goal in October. It was ambitious anyway (I actually meant to sign up to the 47km one but my technological incapacity shone through and I managed to sign up for 87km instead), but a sore knee (have to fly to Brisbane to get an MRI), kids who decided to stop sleeping again and just general life have as usual got other plans. So I’ve changed it to 47km and I think I’ll make that!! I walked this morning which was amazing. saw these beautiful clouds. And I’m still alcohol free, 17 days into October. So definitely good progress on one of my goals! Thanks everyone for your support I really appreciate it, and it’s great to know I’ve hit my target (so that’s a gial achieved, thank you!). 😊
