Why I'm walking
It has been just over 12 months since we have had to be transferred by the RFDS and I'd hate to think what life would be like without them. I will walk my 150kms intentionally (not counting my daily 'life' steps, but just when I go out to walk for the RFDS) and I'm sure you'll see me with a bag that I fill with cans and bottles as I walk. It's not much, but it is something that I can give to the RFDS who have given us so much, just by rocking up and transferring us.
Donate now >>It’s been 12 months and counting!!
We have just clocked 12 months without needing the skills and expertise of the RFDS for little V (or anyone else in the family) which is super exciting!
Some might wonder why I am still fundraising if we haven’t had to use them for the last year - well just because WE haven’t needed them, doesn’t mean someone else hasn’t.
Having been in the situation when your tiny human needs more than Kimba can give is scary - and Kimba isn’t even that far out into the sticks as many places people live. Knowing that more help was on its way - without a 6hr drive has been a comfort in those situations.
I don’t want anyone to be in a similar situation to us, without knowing help is on the way in a speedy way. So again, in 2026, I am going to push my limits and aim for 150kms of intentional walking for the RFDS - so that is 150kms above and beyond my ‘normal walking’ for the month of October!
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
So far this year
I’ve helped provide...
