I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

So far this year

My Updates

The penultimate day

Thursday 30th Oct
Day 30. At some point last week I hit my target of 87km!! I was so chuffed! But then an interesting thing happened- something I see in my patients often. I stopped running every day! Today was only the 2nd time this week that I got out. Without a little pressure to make my goal I pressed snooze 3 times this week and had a sleep in rather than go running before work. Another interesting thing happened, one that I am not at all surprised by- I really felt the lack of exercise. I felt it’s absence so much that despite a busy evening I hit the fire trail and I am so grateful that I did! Despite being a sweaty mess, my body feels good- a fatigued “good” but good all the same. Thanks for all support!! (Pic of me as I got home, I keep forgetting to take pics whilst I run).

Day 20

Monday 20th Oct
It’s been a while since I have posted on here. It’s Day 20 and today I am yet to get out there - just waiting until it cools down a little. We’re definitely on the home stretch and I am really proud of what our team has accomplished thus far! I’m very grateful to all our supporters!! Thank you!! I’ve really enjoyed how running most days has made me feel. I’ve already noticed I can run further, my sleep feels deeper and starting the day in nature has been lovely. My smart watch tells me that some parameters including heart rate that I have been monitoring have improved also! And only after 20 days! I might be a little addicted to running… we shall see!!

Double your impact!!

Thursday 16th Oct
Hi all! Today, we've got the chance to double our impact for the RFDS. Every donation to my Oceans to Outback fundraiser will be doubled TODAY until we reach the $120K cap. I'd love your support, please donate to my page, help me achieve my goal and support the Flying Doctor!! Thank you!

Day 16

Thursday 16th Oct
It’s been a few days since I’ve run in the morning and today I was rewarded with a lovely light fog as the sun rose. I really appreciate all the support!

Day 13

Monday 13th Oct
I’ve been running daily- which feels good! I am enjoying being able to run farther than previous. Definitely enjoying the warmer weather but did brave the rain to walk with a friend yesterday evening. So grateful for the support! Picture commemorating the walk with my neighbour and friend (we forgot to take a picture and this was the “photoshopped” version! 🤪)

Day 8

Wednesday 8th Oct
Guys- I’m sore. Don’t get me wrong, I try and keep active but I haven’t run every day for a week… ever! If I didn’t have a long day at work, followed by a meeting that just finished (9pm) I probably would have had a bath to relax my calves! It is interesting- my exercise tolerance is increasing- already! I’m running for longer and today ran half way up the big hill that I had been having to walk up. (that might be why I’m sore now? 🤔). I’m so grateful for the donations and support. Thank you!

Day 7

Tuesday 7th Oct
I very nearly didn’t run today- it was damp, cold and gloomy but I thought of the commitment I had made to the RFDS and dragged myself out of bed. For added motivation I recruited the most talented runner in our house- my nine year old, Ash. He’s a lot faster than me and can run a lot further. If we go running together he usually runs ahead of me, then runs back to me and does this on repeat or we go to the oval and he runs circles around me. I had promised him a bush run today which is what we did. Despite the rocky, slippery terrain he still dominated! The hill that usually reduces me to a snail- he steamed up and continued to run home, completely unphased. He definitely kept me going on this overcast morning- Great motivation! Pic of Ash sprinting up the hill out of the bush.

Day 6

Monday 6th Oct
A short run this morning before a long drive back home but was adamant I would get it done despite the busy-ness of packing up. I really enjoyed running by the water at Smiths Lake. That and the solitude- it was mostly just me out there as the sun rose over the water. Tomorrow- back to the fire trials and bush near home! Hope you had a rejuvenating long weekend! (Picture from 2 days ago that I forgot to post- walking with company.)

Day 5

Sunday 5th Oct
7am. After being woken up a few times last night I told myself I would sleep in and get my run in later however I woke up with the sun and feeling good - so decided to head out before anyone woke up! (the only reason no one was awake at 7 was because of Day light saving starting last night!)

Day 4

Saturday 4th Oct
6am. A change of scenery today but still getting my k’s in whilst away for the long weekend. A beautiful run down to the water today but that did mean 2 massive hills to get back home. 😰 Thank you to those you have supported the cause!

Day 3

Friday 3rd Oct
An early start today to make sure I got my run in before an early start at work. Received my Oceans to Outback shirt in the mail yesterday so debuted it today with Dr Alana! With the long weekend imminent I’m trying to be very intentional about running my 2.8km daily. I find with a change in routine, it becomes easy to miss basic self care like exercise!! Have a great long weekend!

Day 2

Thursday 2nd Oct
6:14am. Slightly later today as the little boy wanted extra cuddles this morning. I’ve lived within walking distance of the bush for the last 8 years but it’s only been in the last year that I’ve felt confident to explore by myself. Now, I can’t get enough of the fire trails. This morning as I cut across the oval (which usually has a neighbour or 2 with their dogs) it was only me with a Kookaburra enjoying the morning sun, watching his mate, the Galah.

Day 1!

Wednesday 1st Oct
5:55am, 1st October 2025- and so it starts! Because Wednesdays are my longer day at work I’m getting out there early!
