Update for Day 2,3,4,5,6 and 7

I thought I’d update everyone on how we have been going with the challenge. We have had most days where Ruby and I have averaged 4km walks while Marley has been going on double that amount in bike rides and Flynn triple.

Saturday has been our biggest day so far where we cycled our Mountain Bikes on the top end of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail. I must admit - we may have taken on more than what we were capable of - except for Flynn, he was like the energiser bunny and could have done the whole thing again! In hindsight we should have had more warm up rides before attempting so many kms in one day. There was a moment at the halfway mark, where my legs didn’t want to keep working and I thought - how on earth am I going to finish this? But I did and I’m so very proud of the kids and myself pushing through mentally and physically. Flynn and I were able to make the whole trail returned - 48kms, while Marley and Ruby cycled just over 27kms each. Marley had a stack at about 10kms - but got back up and kept riding with bandaged hands and a grazed/sore shoulder. Marley also had what looked like a small brown baby snake slither very quickly under their bike while riding - I was right behind them, so it gave us both a fright. Thankfully the snake was more interested in getting to the other side of the path than bothering us.
We had our lovely friends cycle with us - Zoe with her daughter Milla for the first part and Dean with Milla on the way back ( and one of their other daughters Neve put in about 6kms as well). We had our Spaghetti Monster pins on for Deano and I also had a beautiful NZ fern appear on the return trip when I needed it. We felt Deanos presence with us pushing us along - telling us to get a move on.
The trail had beautiful scenery - I definitely recommend it for a ride or walk. The first half there were a lot of photo stops of the country side and the beautiful trees.
This week, the kids went back to school today with Marley and Flynn walking together to and from their school and Ruby and I to hers - usually they all get dropped off in the car and picked up, so this will add onto everyone’s kms.
Mum and Ali have been getting some walks in down in NSW.
So for the first week the kms we have clocked are
Michelle - 65km
Marley - 48km
Flynn - 108km ( Flynn loves to be out on his bike)
Ruby - 39km
Anne - 7km
Ali - 13km.

Thank you to everyone who has donated in the last week, we are so grateful to you. We have so far raised a huge $3552! We would still love to see this amount grow higher please. If you are unable to donate - a share of our fundraising page would be appreciated. I will add the team page here - Once you click on the link, you can scroll to the bottom of the page to find the team members and donate. Thank you again everyone xxxx

Day 1 update

Thank you so so much everyone for all that have generously donated so far. We have been absolutely blown away - In 24 hours we have exceeded our original goal! You guys are so kind and amazing - thank you. Since we are at the very beginning of our challenge we are going to increase our goal to $2500. I will share the seperate links for the kids and my fundraising pages - the kids are getting a real kick out of watching their donations move up so you dont really need to worry about mine. You can find all the links on my personal profile page - just click on my name and it will take you there. Today we stayed local in the Redlands - Ruby, Ziggy (our Staffy) and I walked down to the bay which was 4km return. Marley and Flynn went out on their bikes, mostly on the Mtn Bike tracks, riding 8kms. Thank you again everyone xxxx

Deano’s last flight fundraiser

We're fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Hey family and friends,

Marley, Flynn, Ruby and I - along with my mum Anne, and sister Alison, are participating in the fundraiser Oceans to Outback for the month of October. We are raising money for the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) in memory of our much loved and missed Deano.

For those who are not aware, in 2024, Deano was working FIFO in the most remote mine site in Australia in the Tanami Desert. It was here he required critical medical attention. The RFDS were the crew who picked Deano up from his mine site and flew him to Alice Springs hospital. I know they did everything they could do for him and I am forever grateful to the RFDS, the pilot and the crew on board that night, who cared for and looked after Deano when he needed them and I wasn’t able to be there with him.

We are challenging ourselves to walk and cycle at least 562kms during the whole month of October and hope to raise a minimum of $1250 between the team (possibly more if we can). The reason for 562kms is because it is the distance the RFDS flew Deano from the mine site to Alice Springs airport. I will be posting regular updates of what we have been doing to make our kms up.

If you could spare any amount, it would be much appreciated and if you are unable to donate, please share this as someone you know may be able to.
Donations can be made until the 31st of October, when the challenge finishes.
Thank you x
